Concept
The basic concept of the game ‘ Shadow Boy’ is about this silhouette theme in the overall design of the game. The ‘shadow’ is utilized as the very much concept of the game where it is pretty much unsure what a boy is in such dark place where rabbits or anything remotely cute is dangerous enough to throw flames. So it feels coming from some dark corner of the developer where everything becomes a bit shady. But overall there is nothing troubling in the game, rather it is fresh and enjoying.
Design
As the concept stated being creating a game graphics or scenario completely in the silhouette for where every or most of the elements are dark and in shadow. It looks quite beautiful though as very least of such online games explores a concept out of the way. The whole background with a large moon dramatizes the surrounding of the game. Boy, probably with a cap has only this white eyes gleaming in the dark. A little movement even in the static mode is programmed to the character along with the blinking eye. Rest, there are trees in the bit of the moonlight and some in shadows. Then all the grasses, broken fences, twisted wires, eating plants, white rabbits throwing flames, spikes pit, running cat, spinning spike-wheels and lot of stuff are planted to obstruct or against the protagonist.
Gameplay
The gameplay of the ‘Shadow Boy’ is pretty much simple and basic but still very complex to play. You are controlling this shadow boy who is in the adventure in the middle of the night. You are supposed to collect all the gold coins in the way where some are strategically placed above the fall pits, twisted wires or spikes. So make sure you do jump with the help of the ‘UP’ arrow key. With double tapping the key, you can make the larger jumps which are basically going to help you a lot in the game. There are various obstacles which are static, then there are some moving in a certain area but above that, some are just quick and tough to act upon. To kill the threat whether they are rabbit, cat, plants or snails, you can jump on them, quite like ‘Mario’ again. You have basically three lives which are denoted as three hearts at the top left corner of the screen. So basically with one hit like fire, walking on spikes or get contact with a cat will cost you one heart. After such three mistakes, the game will start over from the very beginning. Most threats are arranged in a certain way where you need a strategy to cross by and then some grip on the game.
Challenges
There are basically three types of challenges or threats in the game which goes against you in the game. First are those immovable such as spikes pit, twisted wires, and other grounded trap to kill the boy. Then, there are some threats which move in a certain pattern, predictable and can be managed easily such as the rabbit, the flying insect, and snails. Rabbits do not move much, they throw flames, so if you know where they positioned, you can jump on them to eliminate them. Flying insect can be avoided as it only comes in a certain way, so you can wait a bit and then move as they pass by and do not back. The last and the most troubling threats are the spinning wheel which gets active and runs to hit you the moment you come forward to a certain point. Then, there is this cat who is just come out of nowhere and run through. Spinning wheels are placed on a certain point where if you act like you are jumping or moving to but stay there or just tackle at that point, it will miss your trail as it was programmed. For running cat, you just have to make an appropriate jump when it tries to hit you.
Tips to Play
1. You must remember that various threats are planned in a certain way but if you precede your movement just act its anticipation instead of doing it, you can play things in your way. For example. at starting when you begin, rabbit throws flame and you are supposed to jump but obviously, the flying insect hits you causing you one life. You just have to avoid rash running forward as the rabbit only started throwing fire when you step around the fence. So you just bit wait, collect the coins to understand the wave path of the flying insect and let it go through. The, with a double jump you will eliminate the rabbit easily.
2. Read the patterns and when these threats get active. Every element has a trigger, like when you reach a spot where you suppose to jump through an obstacle, the point before it the spinning spike wheel come at you losing your one life in the game. So just step on the trigger and then back off, the wheel has a pattern to go through, so just jump over it at the right spot where it gets active and then go forward.
